Preston Sidney Bersaw
3.17.11
Born at 8:09 AM
Weighing 8 lbs. 1 oz. and 19 3/4 inches long
We had a very great day on March 17, 2011 when we welcomed our new addition into our lives.  A family of four, we are finally complete with the arrival of Mr. Preston Sidney.  We named him after Paul's grandpa Sidney, who we both love and admire so much.  He is truly a great man and we hope that Preston will be about to follow in his footsteps as he grows older.

Minutes old--Getting some much needed oxygen
Shortly after birth, Preston started having difficulties breathing.  He was quickly put on oxygen and the test began to see what was causing this issue.  The nursing and pediatric staff soon saw from a chest x-ray that he had a large amount of liquid on his lungs.  Since he was a c-section birth, it's not uncommon for babies to take breath before completely out, thus causing them to swallow amniotic fluid.
Proud Daddy!

needed antibiotics in the NICU
After further tests they found that his white blood cell count was extremely low and he had an infection that his body was unable to fight off this early in his life.  Thus, landing him in the NICU for 72 hours for observation and medication.  He was put on 2 types of antibiotics and stuck with needle after needle to put IV's into his small little veins.  I am so happy I never had to watch them do that to my little guy.  However, I can't even begin to express how thankful I am to the NICU nurses and staff for the job they do every day and how they helped my little boy feel better!

Only Grandparents and Paul and I were allowed to go into hold Preston.  I was so happy that Kay and Dan could be there to help cheer him on and help him feel better!

After six long days, Preston was going to be discharged from the NICU.  On Tuesday, March 22, 2001 we packed up our little boy and set off for home.  Someone much greater was looking out for us that day as we knew that a huge storm was predicted to hit our area, once again!  The forecast predicted the storm would start Monday night and continue into Thursday.  I was so nervous that we'd be stuck in Minot with blizzard conditions and not be able to get Preston home.  We woke up on Tuesday morning and found that it hadn't started to rain like predicted yet.  We got to the hospital and the staff did their best to get us checked out as quickly as possible.
Waiting for Daddy to pick us up so we can go home!
We got in our vehicle and were 10 miles from home when the rain started.  As we pulled into our driveway we saw the first, of MANY, snowflakes fly.  We were home and hunkered down as the storm rolled in.  Safe, warm, healthy and most of all HAPPY to be a family of four!

  1. Yay! I'm so happy you're all home and healthy and doing well! You had me worried there for awhile! I can't believe how big Savannah looks sitting next to Preston! He is adorable-- it's crazy how dark his eyes and hair are! If you're in need of some extra hands later on this Spring, just holler and Gma Pat and I will be on our way out to pitch in!

Congratualtions and glad you made it home to hunker down before the snow flew! I'm sure Paul was driving a sedate speed.

  4. Too funny Laurie! I am glad you got it figured out!

Amber, you may wish you never would have offered that help! I will for sure give you a call. Maybe you can come up sometime this summer and go swimming with us at the pool. I think that would be great fun!
