Splish, Splash...

Preston enjoying his very FIRST bath in the tub!
Three weeks old--April 10th, 2011

For all you moms out there, you know that giving your child a bath in the tub for the first time is a monumental experience.  It means a couple of things; that your child no longer has their "stump" as I like to call the little tag of an umbilical cord that is left after birth and, for our child, it means that his circumcision has healed.  I clearly remember the feeling of anxiety as I gave Savannah her first bath (as this milestone was not all that long ago) and begging my mom to help me give her that first bath.  This time, Paul and I marched into our bathroom and proceeded to give Preston his very first bath ALL ON OUR OWN!  There is truly something to be said about being a second time parent.  The fears and anxieties that I felt with my first child are not completely diminished by any means, but I have a new feeling of confidence going into every day tasks that I did not necessarily have with Savannah (at least not right away).  This played a large role in last night's bath.  Not only did Preston LOVE his bath--he was so relaxed.  Could the studies be correct?  Does a parent's demeanor have something to do with they way that they act?  Like if you're uptight and anxious will they be too?  Or if you're calm, in turn, will they be calm?   If this study is correct--I think by Preston's reaction last night at bath time-- Paul and I were pretty relaxed and calm about his first bath.

We didn't get the "deer in the headlights" look like we got from Savannah the first time putting her in the tub.  She looked so scared and cried the entire time we were bathing her.   Not a fun experience!

Savannah Jean Bersaw--1st Bath
Scared to DEATH!!!  Not liking it one bit!

All I can say is thank goodness for experience and what it teaches us as parents.  Poor Savannah gets to be our first for everything--hopefully she will make it to 18 unharmed!!  ;)   Splish, Splash EVERYONE!

"Hey...I think this is pretty nice!"
